The complementary therapies lightbulb was well and truly switched on for me when I attended a yoga class in a desperate attempt to relieve the long-standing agony of back pain. The combination of a committed daily yoga practice, bewitching yoga teachers and the work of a wonderful osteopath with healing hands combined to gradually mobilise the joints and eventually eliminate the pain from excruciating to more or less nothing. In all, the process took around 12 months.I still practise yoga most days so the healing is ongoing – but I’m pain-free so I won’t be stopping any time soon.
My curiosity about how this had happened led me to a variety of different teachers, the first of them being the Healing Trust where I took their foundation course and a 2-year period of study in natural healing. Then a Reiki Master appeared on the horizon – it’s funny how these things find you – I learned what she offered to teach me and became attuned to Reiki, which then also became part of daily life. Since then, I’ve also studied Thai Yoga Massage, Swedish Massage, Aromatherapy Massage, Reflexology, Indian Head Massage, Pregnancy Massage, and Baby Yoga, Soft Stretching and Baby Massage. You can find out more about all of these by clicking on the links.
I’ve often thought about
how such a powerful change can come about from yoga and cranio-sacral
osteopathy when all else had failed. And the answer I’ve arrived at is that it is far more than just about
dealing with physical symptoms that the body presents when our inner core is
tired.
So, I’ve developed a deep curiosity about the power the body has to heal itself and the role of the practitioner to simply provide the space and the environment to allow that healing process to begin. Whether it’s through a massage, a reiki session, or any therapy of your choice, the result can be the same, the work comes together holistically to treat the entire body and spirit as one.For me it’s all about discovering that re-connection with the energy of the earth and nature that we somehow seem to have lost along the way – our lives are too busy, too hectic to put aside time for ourselves to relax and realign.
Although the complementary therapies I offer are non-diagnostic and cannot promise a cure for illness or ailments, they will work alongside any treatment you may be taking from your GP, to provide the space and peace that you need to come together. That may be the first step to set you back on the road to wellbeing.
Or it could be that you are feeling completely well, and that’s fantastic – but this can be the most critical time to take holistic therapy – prevention in the form of keeping the whole healthy is essential to living life to the full.
